As we approach the Season of Lent, this Sunday is the last, before we enter this sacred time and invites us to reflect on our sins and embrace repentance for the sake of the Gospel. The readings for the 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) offer profound lessons on how we, as Christians, should speak, act, and live. These lessons challenge us to examine our daily actions and ensure they align with our faith, preparing us to commemorate the Paschal Mysteries of our Lord.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus warns us about following blind guides (Luke 6:39). As young Catholics, we must be discerning about whom we listen to and follow. The world offers many voices —social media influencers, celebrities, and even leaders who lack true wisdom. Yet Christ calls us to seek guidance from those who lead with truth, humility, and faithfulness to God. Let us choose mentors who inspire us to grow in holiness.

Jesus also challenges us to examine ourselves before pointing out others’ faults (Luke 6:41-42). It is easy to criticize, but true discipleship begins with humility. Before correcting others, we must first purify our own hearts. Self-examination helps us become more compassionate, understanding, and merciful toward others.

Furthermore, Jesus reminds us that a good tree bears good fruit (Luke 6:43-45). Our words and actions reveal the condition of our hearts. As Filipino Catholic youth, we are called to be living witnesses of Christ. If our hearts are deeply rooted in love and faith, our lives will naturally reflect kindness, honesty, and service.

St. Paul encourages us: “Be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Cor 15:58) The mission of spreading Christ’s love is not easy, but every effort we make for His glory—whether in our studies, work, or service—has eternal value. Let us not grow weary in doing good. Stand firm in faith, bear good fruit, and be a light to others!
